mucous membrane
Body's wet lining
A mucous membrane is the moist tissue lining body cavities and passages that connect to the outside—the mouth, nose, throat, lungs, stomach, intestines, and urogenital tract.
These membranes secrete mucus, which lubricates and protects the underlying tissue.
The virus enters through mucous membranes.
Also called mucosa.
