subshell
Electron energy subdivision
A subshell is a subdivision of an electron shell in atomic physics, designated by letters (s, p, d, f) that indicate orbital shape and energy level: The 2p subshell can hold up to six electrons.
In computing, a subshell is a child process spawned by a shell to execute commands in an isolated environment, often created by parentheses in scripts: Variables set in a subshell don't affect the parent.
