staphylococcus
Grape-shaped bacterial pathogen
Staphylococcus is a genus of spherical bacteria that cluster in grape-like formations.
Various species live harmlessly on human skin and mucous membranes, but some cause infections ranging from minor skin conditions to life-threatening sepsis.
The lab results showed staphylococcus in the wound culture.
Often shortened to staph: a staph infection.
