midrise

Neither low nor high

Midrise describes buildings of intermediate height—typically four to twelve stories, taller than low-rise but shorter than high-rise.

The term appears most often in real estate and urban planning: a midrise apartment complex, midrise office buildings along the boulevard.

Midrise development often represents a compromise between suburban sprawl and dense urban towers.
