midway

Equally between extremes

Midway means at or around the halfway point of a distance, process, or time period: We stopped midway between the two cities, She changed her mind midway through the project.

The word functions as both adverb and adjective.

A midway is also the area at a fair or carnival where games, rides, and sideshows are located—originally the central walkway running through such attractions. (Capitalized Midway refers to the Pacific atoll or the World War II battle fought there.)
