matzahs
Passover bread substitute
Matzahs is the plural of matzah, the unleavened flatbread eaten during Passover.
Jewish tradition holds that the Israelites fled Egypt so quickly their bread had no time to rise, so matzah commemorates that haste.
During the eight-day holiday, matzah replaces leavened bread entirely: We went through three boxes of matzahs this Passover.
