Quranic teaching institutions
Madrasas are Islamic educational institutions, ranging from elementary schools teaching basic religious instruction to advanced seminaries training scholars in Islamic law and theology.
The word is Arabic for "school." In Western media, madrasa often carries connotations of fundamentalist religious teaching, though most are simply ordinary schools: He attended a madrasa as a boy.
