hadith

Islamic oral tradition

A hadith is a report of the words, actions, or tacit approvals of the Prophet Muhammad, transmitted through a chain of narrators.

These accounts form a major source of Islamic law and practice alongside the Quran.

Scholars classify hadiths by reliability based on their chains of transmission: a sahih hadith is considered authentic, while weaker ones carry less authority.

The collected hadiths are sometimes called the Hadith as a body of literature.

The hadith forbids this practice.
