minarets
Slender mosque spires
Minarets are tall, slender towers attached to mosques, from which a muezzin traditionally calls Muslims to prayer.
The distinctive silhouette—often with a balcony near the top and a pointed or onion-shaped crown—has become an architectural symbol of Islam: The minarets of Istanbul punctuate the skyline.
