lowball

Deliberately underquote price

Lowball means to offer or quote a price substantially below what something is worth or what someone expects: They lowballed us on the house offer.

The term comes from poker, where lowball is a game in which the lowest hand wins.

A lowball estimate or bid is deliberately understated, sometimes to win a contract or manipulate negotiations: The contractor lowballed to get the job, then hit us with change orders.
