Markdown is a lightweight markup language that uses plain text formatting symbols to indicate structure and styling.
Asterisks create *italics* or **bold**, hash marks make headings, and brackets form links.
Designed for readability even in raw form, markdown converts easily to HTML for web publishing: I write all my notes in markdown.
The format has become standard for documentation, README files, and online forums. (Capitalized Markdown refers to the same format when treated as a proper name.)
