counteroffer

Bargaining table reply

A counteroffer is a response to an offer that proposes different terms rather than accepting or rejecting outright.

In negotiations, making a counteroffer typically rejects the original offer while keeping discussion open: They offered $300,000 for the house, but we made a counteroffer of $325,000.

The verb counteroffer works the same way.
