lordling

Petty young aristocrat

A lordling is a minor or petty lord, often used dismissively to suggest someone who acts lordly without having real power or status to back it up.

The diminutive suffix conveys either youth or insignificance—a young nobleman not yet come into his own, or a self-important person playing at authority.

The lordling strutted about the estate as if he actually owned it.
