line printer

Mainframe's paper producer

A line printer is a high-speed printer that prints an entire line of text at once rather than character by character.

These machines dominated computer output from the 1950s through the 1980s, producing the distinctive green-and-white striped continuous-feed paper familiar from that era.

The term now sounds dated, as laser and inkjet printers replaced them.
