daisy wheel
Typewriter printing element
A daisy wheel is a printing element used in certain typewriters and early computer printers, consisting of a disk with characters mounted on spokes radiating from a central hub—resembling a daisy flower.
Each spoke carries a single letter or symbol; the wheel spins to position the correct character, which a hammer then strikes against the ribbon.
Daisy wheel printers produced sharp, typewriter-quality text but couldn't print graphics, and were largely replaced by dot matrix and laser printers.
