keyframe

Defined motion point

A keyframe is a frame in animation or video that defines a starting or ending point for a transition.

Software interpolates the frames between keyframes automatically, so an animator need only set positions at key moments: I set keyframes at the beginning and end of the bounce.

In video compression, keyframes are complete images that anchor sequences of partial frames.
