cels
Cartoon frame sheets
Cels are transparent sheets used in traditional animation, each painted with a single frame's image.
Animators layer cels over static backgrounds, photographing them in sequence to create the illusion of movement.
The term comes from celluloid, the material originally used.
Original cels from classic cartoons have become collectibles: She owns a cel from *Snow White*.
