attribute

Quality or characteristic

Attribute can be a noun (first syllable stressed) or a verb (second syllable stressed).

When you attribute something you name the person or thing that is responsible for it or the cause of it: The plague of insects is being attributed to an unusually mild winter.

When text or a work of art is attributed to someone, that person is identified as its author or creator.

An attribute is one among a number of qualities of something.

For me the most important attributes in a partner are fidelity, intelligence, and humor.
