icebergs

Titanic's frozen doom

Icebergs are massive chunks of freshwater ice that have broken off from glaciers or ice shelves and float in the sea.

Most of an iceberg's mass sits below the waterline—only about ten percent is visible above the surface.

This characteristic gives rise to the figurative use: That's just the tip of the iceberg means the visible part of a much larger problem or situation.
