growler

Refillable beer jug

A growler is a container for carrying draft beer, typically a half-gallon glass jug filled at a brewery or taproom: I picked up a growler of their new IPA.

The term also refers to a small iceberg or chunk of floating ice, dangerous because it sits low in the water.

In older slang, a growler was a pail for fetching beer from a saloon.

Informally, growler can mean someone who growls—a grumpy person—or, in British slang, a vulgar term for female genitalia.
