water vapor
Gaseous H₂O form
Water vapor is water in its gaseous state, invisible and present throughout Earth's atmosphere.
It forms when liquid water evaporates or ice sublimates, and it condenses back into liquid droplets to form clouds, fog, and dew.
Water vapor is distinct from steam, which technically refers to water vapor near its boiling point, though the terms are often used interchangeably in casual speech.
It plays a crucial role in weather systems and is itself a greenhouse gas.
