hydrogen cyanide

Lethal gaseous compound

Hydrogen cyanide is a highly toxic chemical compound, a colorless gas or liquid with a faint bitter-almond odor.

It kills by blocking cells from using oxygen.

The compound occurs in industrial processes and has been used as a chemical weapon and execution agent.

Small amounts exist naturally in certain fruit pits and seeds.

Also called prussic acid or HCN.
