sodium thiosulfate

Photographic fixer compound

Sodium thiosulfate is a chemical compound used to neutralize chlorine in water treatment and photography.

In darkroom processing, it's the active ingredient in photographic fixer, dissolving unexposed silver halide from film and prints—hence the nickname "hypo." Medical uses include treating cyanide poisoning and certain skin conditions.

The pool technician added sodium thiosulfate to dechlorinate the water.
