reactants
Pre-reaction chemical inputs
Reactants are the substances that participate in and are changed by a chemical reaction.
They appear on the left side of a chemical equation, before the arrow, while the products they transform into appear on the right.
The reactants combine to form water.
In a combustion reaction, for instance, the reactants are typically a fuel and oxygen.
The term extends metaphorically to any ingredients or elements that combine to produce a result.
