hip fracture
Broken upper femur
A hip fracture is a break in the upper portion of the femur, near where it connects to the pelvis.
Most common in elderly people with osteoporosis, hip fractures typically result from falls and often require surgery: She never fully recovered after her hip fracture.
The term usually refers to fractures of the femoral neck or the surrounding area, not the pelvis itself.
