bone scan

Fracture detection method

A bone scan is a diagnostic imaging procedure that detects abnormalities in bones.

A small amount of radioactive material is injected into the bloodstream and absorbed by bone tissue, with areas of unusual activity—fractures, infections, tumors, or arthritis—showing up as bright spots on the scan.

The bone scan revealed several stress fractures in her foot.
