hip fractures
Pelvis bone breaks
Hip fractures are breaks in the upper portion of the femur, near where it joins the pelvis.
They occur most often in elderly people with osteoporosis, typically from falls that younger bones would survive.
Hip fractures frequently require surgery and extended rehabilitation, and they mark a serious decline in mobility and independence for many older adults: She never fully recovered after her hip fracture.
