non-weight-bearing

Off the leg

Non-weight-bearing describes a restriction where a limb—usually a leg or foot—must not support any body weight.

Doctors prescribe this after fractures, surgery, or severe injuries to allow healing: She was non-weight-bearing for six weeks after the ankle surgery.

The patient uses crutches, a wheelchair, or a walker to keep all pressure off the affected limb.
