hemophilia

Clotting factor deficiency

Hemophilia is a genetic disorder in which blood fails to clot normally, causing prolonged bleeding from even minor injuries.

The condition results from deficiency in clotting factors and occurs almost exclusively in males, though females can be carriers.

Hemophilia became widely known through its appearance in European royal families: Queen Victoria was a carrier of hemophilia.
