fragile X syndrome
Inherited intellectual disability
Fragile X syndrome is a genetic condition causing intellectual disability, developmental delays, and distinctive physical features.
It results from a mutation on the X chromosome that affects brain development.
Symptoms range from mild learning difficulties to severe cognitive impairment, often accompanied by anxiety and attention problems.
It's the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability, more severe in males than females.
