Latin America

South of Texas

Latin America refers to the regions of the Americas where Romance languages—primarily Spanish and Portuguese—predominate.

This includes Mexico, Central America, South America (except for English-speaking Guyana and Dutch-speaking Suriname), and parts of the Caribbean.

The term distinguishes these areas from English- and French-speaking North America: Latin American literature has flourished since the mid-twentieth century.
