giornata
Day in Rome
Giornata is an Italian word meaning "day" or "day's work," borrowed into English primarily in art history.
In fresco painting, a giornata is the area of plaster an artist could complete in a single day before it dried: The restorers identified over four hundred giornate in the chapel ceiling.
The term helps scholars understand how large frescoes were executed section by section.
