lunette

Arched wall opening

A lunette is a crescent or half-moon shape.

In architecture, it's a semicircular window or wall section, often found above doors or in vaulted ceilings: The lunette over the entrance was filled with stained glass.

In fortification, a lunette is an outwork with two projecting faces forming an angle.

The term also applies to crescent-shaped objects in other contexts—a holder for the Eucharist, a ring on a watch case, or a flattened glass used in watchmaking.
