Freaks is the plural of freak—originally someone with an unusual physical condition, often displayed in sideshows.
The word extends to anyone obsessive or eccentric about something: fitness freaks, control freaks.
As slang, freaks can mean people who are sexually uninhibited.
To freak or freak out is to panic or lose composure: She freaked when she saw the bill.
