maniacs

Utterly unhinged people

Maniacs is the plural of maniac—people who behave wildly, recklessly, or with dangerous obsession.

The word originally meant someone suffering from mania, a mental state of extreme agitation, but now it's mostly informal: These maniacs were driving ninety on the highway.

It can also describe intense enthusiasm: fitness maniacs, sports maniacs.
