addicts

They can't quit

Addicts is the plural of addict, a noun designating people who are dependent on a particular substance or activity and cannot easily stop.

The word most commonly applies to those dependent on drugs or alcohol, but extends to behavioral dependencies: gambling addicts, social media addicts.

The verb addict, pronounced with stress on the second syllable, means to cause someone to become dependent: The pharmaceutical company knew its product would addict patients.

More often the passive form appears: He became addicted to painkillers after surgery.
