mutants

Organisms with alterations

Mutants are organisms that have undergone mutation—a change in genetic structure that produces traits different from the parent or original form.

In biology, mutations drive evolution and can be neutral, harmful, or beneficial.

In popular culture, especially comics and science fiction, mutants are characters with extraordinary abilities resulting from genetic anomaly: The X-Men are mutants with superhuman powers.

The term can be used loosely or humorously for anyone or anything that seems abnormally different: These strawberries are mutants—look at the size of them.
