Barnum
Famous American huckster
Barnum refers to P.T.
Barnum, the 19th-century American showman famous for spectacular circus entertainment and dubious attractions.
His name survives in phrases suggesting exaggerated spectacle or shameless hype: a Barnum-style publicity stunt.
The saying "There's a sucker born every minute" is attributed to him, though he probably never said it. (Lowercase barnum is rare.)
