finch
Small perching bird
A finch is a small songbird with a short, stout beak adapted for cracking seeds.
The family includes hundreds of species—sparrows, canaries, cardinals, and goldfinches among them.
Finches are common backyard birds and popular in captivity: A pair of finches nested in our hedge.
