hand-tame

Trained to trust

Hand-tame describes an animal accustomed to human handling—calm enough to perch on a hand, accept food from fingers, or tolerate being picked up without fleeing or biting.

The term appears most often with birds and small pets: a hand-tame parakeet, hand-tame mice.

Hand-taming requires patient, repeated contact until the animal associates human hands with safety rather than threat.
