cassowary

Blue-necked flightless bird

A cassowary is a large flightless bird native to New Guinea and northern Australia.

Second only to ostriches in size, cassowaries have distinctive bony crests on their heads and bright blue necks.

They can be dangerous—powerful legs ending in dagger-like claws have killed humans.

We spotted a cassowary in the rainforest.
