exobiology

Extraterrestrial life research

Exobiology is the study of life beyond Earth—its possible existence, origins, and characteristics.

The field draws on astronomy, biology, and chemistry to investigate where extraterrestrial life might exist and how we might detect it.

Since no such life has been confirmed, exobiology remains largely theoretical, focusing on environments like Mars or Europa that might support organisms.

Also called astrobiology.
