hypersaline
Saltier than seawater
Hypersaline describes water or environments with salt concentrations significantly higher than ordinary seawater.
The Dead Sea and Utah's Great Salt Lake are hypersaline bodies where only specialized organisms can survive.
Hypersaline conditions also occur in evaporation ponds and certain coastal lagoons: The hypersaline lake supported unique bacterial communities.
