alien intelligence
Non-human sentient life
Alien intelligence refers to a mind or cognitive capacity originating beyond Earth—the hypothetical thinking beings that SETI searches for.
The term also describes any intelligence fundamentally unlike our own, whether extraterrestrial, artificial, or simply incomprehensible: We may create an alien intelligence before we ever discover one.
The phrase captures both otherness and cognition—something that thinks, but not as we do.
