intergrowth

Crystals grown together

Intergrowth describes the growth of two or more things together, typically crystals or minerals that have formed simultaneously and become intertwined or interpenetrated.

In geology, an intergrowth shows where different mineral species developed in the same space: The specimen displayed a striking intergrowth of quartz and feldspar.

The term applies wherever distinct structures grow into and through each other.
