derma

Body's outer layer

Derma is skin, especially as a medical or scientific term.

It appears most often as a combining form in words like dermatology (study of skin), dermatitis (skin inflammation), and hypodermic (under the skin).

On its own, derma occasionally names the layer of skin beneath the epidermis.

In Jewish cooking, derma or kishke is beef intestine stuffed with seasoned filling.
