mesoderm
Embryo's middle stratum
Mesoderm is the middle of three primary cell layers in an animal embryo, lying between the outer ectoderm and inner endoderm.
It develops into muscles, bones, blood, the circulatory system, and connective tissues.
The heart forms from mesoderm tissue.
The adjective is mesodermal.
