sebaceous

Secreting skin oil

Sebaceous describes glands in the skin that secrete an oily substance called sebum, which lubricates and waterproofs hair and skin.

The word appears most often in medical and skincare contexts: sebaceous cysts, sebaceous filaments.

When these glands produce too much oil or become blocked, acne and other skin conditions can result.

More generally, sebaceous can describe anything fatty or oily in texture.
