ice dams
Frozen eave ridges
Ice dams are ridges of ice that form at the edge of a roof, preventing melted snow from draining.
When heat escapes through the roof, snow melts and refreezes at the colder eaves, creating a dam that can force water under shingles and into the house.
We had to rake the roof to prevent ice dams.
