nanny
Live-in tot tender
A nanny is a person, typically a woman, employed to care for children in a private household.
Unlike babysitters who work occasionally, nannies usually work regular hours and may live with the family.
The term extends to nanny state, a disparaging label for a government perceived as overprotective or excessively controlling of citizens' behavior.
Nanny is also an affectionate term for grandmother in some families, and can refer to a female goat.
